Hello!
My name is Patrick Khoo and I graduated in September of 2018 from the Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD) with a Bachelor of Engineering (Engineering Product Development), specialising in Mechanical Engineering.
I decided to pursue a career in Design after my graduation and have worked in various fields since then. My most recent work experience was with the R&D Innovation Design team in Procter & Gamble Singapore. Other experiences include working in small design studios - inthewild & Bravo, as well as design think tank - Afternaut. My internships include stints at design studio Foreign Policy Design Group as well as Mondelez International.
Apart from work, I have designed a couple light art installations with friends for local festivals. I also have a keen interest in fashion - vintage clothing in particular, which led me to start an events company specialising in the curation of vintage & secondhand markets, organising events in December 2019 and February 2024 - No Two Alike (@no.twoalike).
I love designing and making stuff. Most of my time is spent wondering how things are made or observing the details of everyday life. I love the process of creating, experimenting and brainstorming. I want to challenge the traditional role of a designer or in my case, an engineer. I want to keep exploring the different mediums of art and design as well as the other worlds that interact with them.
I have done a short write-up below on some of my inspirations in the design world.
Es Devlin is an artist and a stage designer. Her ability to continuously design spatially in different industries has always inspired me.
Virgil Abloh's history as an architecture graduate who crossed over into the world of fashion perpetually reminds me that you do not always have to do what you studied and inspires me to keep trying new things.
Dieter Rams' "10 Principles of Good Design" is an ever-present for me when embarking on new concepts and designs. His passion to make better products is infectious and will always inspire me to question the concept of better design.
